Vilnius is truly a destination with four distinct seasons. While man-made global warming plays havoc with the weather all over the globe, in Lithuania there still remain totally distinct winter, summer, spring and autumn climatic periods.

The Weather in Vilnius is often described as ranging between 'continental' and 'maritime', but what exactly does this mean in simple terms?  Well, Vilnius Weather can range from extremely cold in winter to very warm in the summer. In recent years, summer temperatures have topped 37 degree Celcius, while the thermometer has dropped to a cool minus 40 degrees in the midst of winter. Truly, Lithuania is the place to be if you wish to experience the natural extremes of the annual weather cycle. But these are extremes and, on the whole, average temperatures are much more hospitable. Spring time is often pleasantly warm during the day time, with many Lithuanians taking to the outdoor beer gardens. The evenings can still turn chilly but, as the last of the winter ice melts away, flowers begin to bloom and the short skirts also begin to appear all over the city.

Summers in the Baltic states are wonderful. Not only do temperatures average in the early 20's, but the evenings are very long with day light only completely fading for an hour or two. Indeed, it is not unusual to sit out at beer tents in the evenings, well into the early hours, and never feel like it is actually the middle of the night.

Autumn in Vilnius brings with it amazing colours, the likes of which you might never have seen in many other parts of Europe and beyond. It is a time for harvesting, berry and mushroom picking, and for enjoying the outdoor life before the winter returns.

If you are visiting as a tourist then chances are you will love the Lithuanian winter. It snows between October and April, with huge falls of snow between December and late February. Temperatures dip well below zero, lakes freeze over and Christmas Markets are erected. Vilnius is truly a winter wonderland at this time of the year, with cosy candlelit barsrestaurants and world-class hotels serving as the perfect place to get warm again after a bracing walk around the snow-covered parks and cobbled streets of the city.

As Vilnius Out There is based in Vilnius itself, we are well aware of how the seasons change and effect the local environment and the people here. We, therefore, offer a vast range of Day Time Activities and Day Trips as well as amazing Night Life excursions, which are catered to each and every season and month of the year.

To give you an idea, we offer Ice Fishing in deep midwinter, River Kayaking in the spring, Hot Air Balloon Rides in the summer, and Football Matches against local Lithuanian opposition in the autumn. Of course, these are just four examples of the dozens and dozens of different activities that are available 7 days per week, 52 weeks per year, because Vilnius truly is a 365 days per year destination!
